This ride is doable for the average rider! It’s meant to get you out with some friends on some new gravel roads and back home in time to-do whatever else is on your list in late September. Some folks will ride it really fast, and that’s ok too.
Last year we raised money for basketball, and this year it’s volleyball that can really use the help. Sign up knowing your hard earned cash will go to support rural kids sports!

The 30 Mile Course Profile + GPS map
(title rounded down from 36.2)
This route starts in the town of Elbert same time as the 70 mile riders so you can get the feel of a race pace and then settle in to pedal at your own rate for a short beautiful course. Ride south through Elbert and turn onto West Kiowa Creek Road and keep pedaling past CR 82 and continue to CR 17-86 for 8 miles up through some great gravel to CR 74.
Feel free to go cross-eyed hanging on the wheel in front of you or ride mellow taking in the sites of the red tail hawks, the arroyos, and the beautiful ponderosa pine trees and ride west on CR 74 at the county line over a few small humps to CR 1.
From here turn right and head back northbound past the Dutch Heritage Garden Center. Then turn right on CR 86 and ride east to CR 9 and ride heading north again. This road bends to CR 5 where there is a short climb up to CR 98. Stay on CR 5 and ride past the Ben Kelly Air Park to CR 106. Then head east to CR 21.
Stay true to gravel grinding! Hang a right heading south where the pavement ends on CR 21 and climb the hill to CR 98. The hill can be a little sandy in spots but just embrace it and you’ll be over it in no time.
:: Here the course takes a slight detour from 2018 ::
DO NOT TURN LEFT AT CTY RD. 98!! Continue on the 15/21 where you will then hang a right. Follow this to the bend south and then ride to Antelope Trail and hang a left and bomb down the last hill of your day to Kiowa Creek Rd., turn left, and bring it on home on the same finish line as the the long course.
We plan little more fun with a podium and we’ll hand out some trophies for M&W Open + Masters M&W 50+… So hopefully you can hang out and cheer on the long course finishers!
