The Event Is To Raise Funds For Elbert Parks And Recreation Youth Sports!
Once upon a time a small group on the volunteer board of the Elbert Parks & Recreation decided to go outside the box thinking of fundraising ideas asking the question: “What does The Town of Elbert have to offer people from around this great state that could bring folks out to Elbert for a day to have fun in and around town that could also help the younger rural kids participate in team sports?” Although it might sound kinda funny to some, but for a few of us the answer was obvious — miles upon miles of some pretty cool dirt roads to race and ride!
A few of us locals already enjoy pedaling them for fitness and fun, even setting the occasional Strava KOM & QOM. So why not invite a bunch of other bicycle riding folks down to enjoy a good September gravel ride? Serve some lunch, meet some new people who love cycling, ride bikes with some old buddies, or challenge other teams to creating some new stories while at the same time, with your presence, make another cool Colorado cycling tradition… raising cash for the local kids!
In a nutshell friends, that’s about how The High Plains Gravel Grinder event came to be, turning gravel into gold.
Thank you very much for participating and we sincerely hope we can provide you a very positive experience.
